Inspiration
DiscoverTheOutdoors.com, Inc., is the brainchild of former NFL quarterback
and lifelong outdoorsman Tony Adams. Like so many others who look to the
woods and waters for recreation, Adams knows the connection between people
and the natural world is vital to preserving our outdoor heritage. That’s
why he set out to connect more people with the wonders of wildlife and
help them discover the outdoor experience.
 It
started with television in 1998 when Heartland Adventures Outdoor Show
first hit the airwaves. The weekly program quickly outgrew its regional
market after the first year and soon landed on the national cable scene,
where it continues to enjoy season after successful season. Despite reaching
millions of viewers, Adams knew that 30 minutes on television each week
couldn’t begin to cover the entire spectrum of the outdoors. Something
more was needed, and emerging media and the Internet were the obvious
answers. Adams conceived the idea of a one-stop Internet resource where
outdoor enthusiasts at any level could find everything they’re looking
for—information that would help recruit and retain more sportsmen
and women. Thus, DiscoverTheOutdoors.com was born.
The Idea
Whether it’s hunting, fishing, camping or any outdoor activity under
the sun, each one has its own world of unique wisdom, skills and experiences
behind it. DTO.com was launched in 2001 with the goal of being the one
place to find it all—all the information and insight an outdoor enthusiast
